What is Children’s Day?

Children’s day is a national celebration in the United States to honor children and their importance in society. Children's Day was established in 1856 by Reverend Dr. Charles Leonard of the Universalist Church of the Redeemer in Chelsea, Massachusetts, as a designated day for child baptisms. At first, he called it Rose Day. President Clinton declared October 8th to be National Children's Day in 1995. However, President Bush proclaimed the first Sunday in June as National Child's Day in 2001.

Children's Day can be observed in a number of ways, but most commonly by families who simply set aside more time to spend with their kids. On this day, it would be wonderful to make kids feel loved by listening to music, conversing, and sharing thoughts or ideas. In observance of Children's Day, some people also enjoy giving their kids presents.
