Big Lots is an American chain of discount retail stores, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. Operating more than 1400 stores, Big Lots provides low prices on items in a variety of departments like household goods, pantry, toys, health & beauty, automotive and much more. Big Lots’ business model features closeout items that allow customers to get huge breaks on prices, particularly in the furniture and household goods department.

Big Lots - History

Big Lots can trace its history back to 1967 when founder Sol Shenk started a business making closeout deals, particularly with automotive produces. In 1982, a store called Odd Lots was opened in Columbus, Ohio. Just a year or two later, the name changed to Big Lots and by 1994 the company had grown to more than 150 stores in 38 states, growing particularly in the toy business. In the early 2000s, Big Lots started getting more invested in the market for household goods and larger furniture items, with 1400 stores in 47 states.

Big Lots is a store that always offers deals, discounts and promotions. From a few dollars off blankets or slippers to hundreds of dollars off a sofa, Big Lots runs all sorts of deals in their weekly ads, which can be viewed in paper form or online. Customers can also sign up for the BIG Rewards program to get a joining bonus, collect rewards and save money throughout the store.

In early 2022, Big Lots was ranked in the top three furniture store loyalty programs for the year. The program is called BIG Rewards, offering 20% coupons, rewards after three purchases and savings on everyday essentials. The ranking was made by a survey taken by more than 4000 US customers.
