With its headquarters in Seymour, Indiana, JayC Food Stores is an American supermarket that provides a comprehensive range of food and grocery-related goods, services, and products. The first JayC store was established in 1863 by Swiss immigrant John C. Groub and his wife Elizabeth on South Chestnut Street in the town of Seymour. In order to provide a greater assortment of goods, JayC decreased the number of stores it operated and increased the size of those it kept in the 1980s. In 1997, it employed more than 2,700 people, making it Indiana's largest private employer in retail. The John C. Groub Co. was purchased by Kroger in January 1999, and 22 JayC outlets are still run by Kroger. The Foods Plus retail locations are now known as JayC Plus.
