ShopRite - Store
ShopRite is an American cooperative of retail supermarkets that has been functioning between independent grocers for more than 70 years. Based in Keasbey, New Jersey, the supermarkets are individually owned and operated, but they can keep their prices low by purchasing their stock together. ShopRite stores sell all sorts of food products and general merchandise, such as food, fresh produce, meat, dairy, frozen foods, pantry products and more. In addition, they offer custom deli platters and customized cakes.
ShopRite - History
In 1946, ShopRite got its start in Newark, New Jersey with a group of independent grocers who forged their way into cooperative buying. The ShopRite name was created in 1951 and by 1958 the group of seven stores had cut prices by 10% in lieu of the trading stamps many other grocery shops were offering. By 1961, the ShopRite coop had 70 members and continued to grow. Today there are more than 300 ShopRite stores in the Northeastern United States.

The Price Plus Club Card offers ways for customers to save even more each week. The card gives instant discounts on hundreds of items. In addition, ShopRite customers can save on promotions through the weekly circular ad. With seasonal savings, weekly sales and digital coupons, ShopRite offers all sorts of deals for their customers.

In September 2022, ShopRite announced its intention to raise $1.5 million to help local hunger-fighting organizations. As part of Hunger Action Month, ShopRite Partners in Caring is committed to raising awareness around food insecurity. With Help Bag Hunger Week and other initiatives, more than 200 ShopRite stores are getting involved.

ShopRite is the largest food retailer in New Jersey and the number one in the New York Metro area, and the largest retailer of food in greater Philadelphia. The corporate and distribution arm of the company is Wakefern Food Corporation, which owns and operates 28 of the locations itself. Wakefern is the largest affiliate within the cooperation, whereas most others operate six stores each, on average.
