The retail giant has more than 4600 stores in all fifty US states, and thousands more stores in international markets. Opening his first store in Rogers, Arkansas in 1962 Sam Walton’s strategy was to provide the lowest possible prices to customers of his store. The company grew very quickly and had 24 stores within five years. Over the years, the company added additional services and eventually grew into Walmart Supercenters which including services such as pharmacy, video rental stores, nail salons, portrait studios and more. By 1991, Walmart had gone global and it still continues in its mammoth growth today.

Many people don’t realize that Walmart has a museum located in Arkansas. Visitors can take a self-guided tour that promotes the history of the retail mogul. Located in Bentonville, in the location of the original Walmart store, which was called Walton’s 5 & 10, this museum encompasses the two oldest buildings in Bentonville Square.
