Scheels is an American retail chain of privately held and employee-owned and operated sporting goods and entertainment stores in the Northern and Midwestern United States. Headquartered in Fargo, North Dakota, the stores cater to those who participate in athletic activities, particularly those of the outdoor variety. With their tagline of “Gear. Passion. Sports,” the stores sell products such as sportswear, camping gear, skis, snowboarding equipment, athletic shoes, yard games, college sports gear and more.
Scheels - History
Started by Fred Scheele in the early 1900s in Minnesota, Scheel’s started out as a small hardware and general merchandise store. Growing into the next few decades, the family-owned business expanded into several stores in North Dakota, focusing on products that farm owners might need. Today, the company runs more than 30 stores in 14 different states, especially those that offer open spaces for participating in outdoor activities, like Nevada, Colorado and Utah.

Currently in 14 states, by 2024 the Scheels family will be adding another state to their repertoire. In Spring 2024, the plan is for Scheels to open another location in Meridian-Boise, Idaho. The All Sports store will be 240,000 square feet and will contain not only more than one million pieces of inventory, but also will offer entertainment attractions, specialty shops and boutiques with premium brands.
