Getting its start in Boone, Iowa in 1938, Fareway was founded by Paul S. Beckwith and has been serving customers for around 85 years. With a revolutionary self-service concept, Fareway shoppers could save by choosing their own groceries instead of relying on a grocer. The company has continued to grow and add stores, which totals more than 130 stores today, in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota and Missouri.

All of the proceeds go to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) of Iowa for research, care and advocacy.

Back as far as 1955, Fareway worked to heat their stores with reclaimed head generated by the refrigeration compressions. In recent years, Fareway has worked to conserve energy so the savings can be passed on to customers. Conservation efforts include recycling wooden pallets, tons of cardboard, plastic shrink wrap, plastic grocery sacks, waste oil and more.
