UGG is a company that is known for its fashionable sheepskin boots. The UGG name is often associated with Australia, but it is technically an American company that sells boots, shoes, accessories, ready-to-wear and some home textiles. UGG got their start back in 1978 when an Australian surfer moved to California and wanted a sheepskin boot for the beach but couldn’t find them – so he created them. By the 1980s, UGG was a trend in Southern California and by 1994 they became well-known as the boots the US Olympic Team wore in Lillehammer. But it wasn’t until 2006 that the brand opened its first brick-and-mortar store in New York, growing to the 130 stores it now operates today all over the world.

In early 2022, UGG launched a new style of retail store called the “Feel House”. This concept store are pop-ups, located in New York City and other places around the world, is meant to create memorable experiences and put the consumer first. The stores put a focus on community by creating an experience instead of just a shop.
Part of UGG’s popularity in the early 2000s was helped by various bits of pop culture. When famous people wore them, like Oprah Winfrey, Cameron Diaz and Leo DiCaprio, the average people went wild and wanted them too. Media exposure, such as a piece where Vogue magazine editors wrote about them in 2013, helped increase their status as a premium brand.
