Dollar General - Store
Dollar General is a chain of discount variety stores in the United States, often located in rural areas and still considered to be the “neighborhood general store”. The store sells products that families need from national brand names and their own store brands, in departments like household, cleaning supplies, health & beauty, pantry items, clothing and more. Their own brand, DG, is considered an inexpensive option to name brands.
Dollar General - History
Getting its start in 1939, Dollar General began as a family-owned business in Scottsville, Kentucky that was originally called J.L. Turner and Son. As the company grew, the name changed in 1955 to become Dollar General, when the company had grown to 35 stores in Kentucky and Tennessee. The idea behind the name was that the store would sell good for a dollar, similar to the Dollar Days promotions at many other department stores. The good-for-a-dollar concept didn’t last, but the company continued to grow and now operates more than 18,500 retail stores in 47 states throughout the US.

Customers can add coupons to their digital wallet, saving on name-brand products like $1 off Scott toilet paper or $1 off two bags of Doritos snacks. Dollar General also offers wireless phone plans and changes these specials each week.
